3D Elastography Using Freehand Ultrasound

We present an elastography system using freehand 3D ultrasound. A review is provided of the standard elastography methods that have been adapted for this purpose. The scanning protocol is simple and promising results are presented of 3D strain images from freehand scans. Robustness is a problem, however, and the main sources of error are explained. Measures have been developed to improve the qu...

Ultrasound Elastography Using Three Images

Displacement1 estimation is an essential step for ultrasound elastography and numerous techniques have been proposed to improve its quality using two frames of ultrasound RF data. This paper introduces a technique for calculating a displacement field from three frames of ultrasound RF data. To this end, we first introduce constraints on variations of the displacement field with time using mecha...

Ultrasound elastography using multiple images

Displacement estimation is an essential step for ultrasound elastography and numerous techniques have been proposed to improve its quality using two frames of ultrasound RF data. This paper introduces a technique for calculating a displacement field from three (or multiple) frames of ultrasound RF data. To calculate a displacement field using three images, we first derive constraints on variati...

Thyroid nodule classification using ultrasound elastography via linear discriminant analysis.

The non-surgical diagnosis of thyroid nodules is currently made via a fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. It is estimated that somewhere between 250,000 and 300,000 thyroid FNA biopsies are performed in the United States annually. However, a large percentage (approximately 70%) of these biopsies turn out to be benign. Since the aggressive FNA management of thyroid nodules is costly, quantitati...

Endoscopic ultrasound elastography

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) elastography is an imaging procedure used for the visualization of tissue elasticity during usual EUS examinations. EUS elastography can be accomplished real-time with state-of-the-art ultrasound systems, with the images being represented in transparent color superimposed on the conventional gray-scale B-mode scans. The aim of this review was to introduce the potenti...

Quasi-Static Ultrasound Elastography.

Elastography is a new imaging modality where elastic tissue parameters related to the structural organization of normal and pathological tissues are imaged. Basic principles underlying the quasi-static elastography concept and principles are addressed. The rationale for elastographic imaging is reinforced using data on elastic properties of normal and abnormal soft tissues. The several orders o...
